How long does it last?
Our standard bar of soap can last anywhere between 3 weeks and a few months, depending on how often and how extensively you use it.
What can I do to make my soap last longer?
Prior to opening, store the soap in a cool, dry and shaded place. Once you begin using the soap, we advise that you put your soaps on a soap dish that allows water to be drained off so as to keep your soaps dry between uses. Remember not to leave the soaps in your bath water and do remember to use your soap by the expiry date!
If you want them to last even longer, you can consider not applying the soap directly to your skin when showering. Instead, create a lather between your hands, or on a sponge, loofah or brush. Apply the lather on your body as required and wash off with clean water.
Is it hygienic?
So long as you keep your soap well, it is definitely hygienic! The essential oils in the soap act as natural anti-bacterial agents.
Can family members share soaps?
You can if you choose to. However each individual has different preferences and skin conditions, thus we would advise that you use your own soap that is most suited to your needs.
Can I use the same bar of soap for my body and face?
You can use our soaps to wash your face. In fact, it was originally made for that purpose! However as mentioned earlier, your facial skin may have different needs from the rest of your body, thus you may choose to have one soap specially for use on your face, another for use on your body.
Are they suitable for sensitive skin?
Definitely. Many of our customers who suffered from sensitive skin benefited greatly from using our cold-processed soap. Skin sensitivity is often caused by exposure to artificial chemicals that are present in our modern everyday life. Usage of our cold-processed soap should help alleviate the problem. Do look out for those specially made for sensitive skin, such as Castile or Goat Milk Bastille. If you are still worried, we do advise that you test the soap on a small patch of your skin on our inner arm and wait a few minutes for any sign of skin irritation.
Is it suitable for everyone?
Cold-processed soaps are suitable for everyone. However certain soaps are more suitable for certain people with specific skin problems due to the essential oils and other natural ingredients (such as milk) that we use for different types of soap. Do look at the description and labels, or email us to find the one that best suits your needs.
Will there be allergic reaction?
Unless you are allergic to specific ingredients used in our soap (e.g. to one of the essential oils), there should not be any adverse reaction. Some users may, however, experience some sort of allergic reaction initially. This may be due to prolonged exposure to chemicals causing an imbalance in the skin condition. The skin is still adjusting and beginning to heal itself, thus the imbalance in secretion. Do give it some time, remember the skin takes 28 days to regenerate itself.
If you tend to have sensitive skin, we recommend that you start off with using our Castile or Bastille soap, and remember to do a patch test on your skin before using any new soap.
What effects will there be?
Depending on the type of soap used, there will be a range of effects, but definitely for the better! For a start, your skin should feel clean but never tight and squeaky. Spots and blemishes should slowly disappear and oil secretion should become balanced. Certain soaps can even help to combat skin infections such as ringworm and eczema. However all this cannot be achieved overnight but you should see some improvement by your first bar.
If essential oils are so good, shouldn’t I use them directly on my body?
You can if you choose to, however most essential oils cannot be used directly on skin. On top of that, only a small amount is required to achieve their therapeutic benefits. So why not use our soaps, since we are going to want to bathe at the end of a long day, right?
